Artist's Comments

Originally painted in 1995,

This was artwork created for Colleen Dorans "swimsuit" issue of A Distant Soil. It collected artworks by comic industry friends of Colleen (as well as by her) on her characters.

Her characters in the artwork are D'Mer and Reiken. The Black Mermaid created characters with them are Rynan and Jessur, from the as yet unreleased work Mermist Seas. Both sets of characters are gay partners, and were shown here having a fine ol' time "WaveDancing".

When I did this artwork, I didn't have a scanner, and the computer we had was very basic. So I sent the original off to Colleen without a copy for myself. I gave the original to Colleen as a gift, and she gifted me with an amazing painting of the Black Mermaid characters Blood Chic with Dart for the Dart series, which was printed in the first issue as a pin-up, which began her association with Image comics.

In early '07, Colleen kindly scanned my original so I had a high rez digital copy of the work, so that's why I can present it here. THANK YOU COLLEEN.

I'm asking all people that I've given artwork to in the past (before I had a scanner) to please send me a high rez scan of my artwork. please contact me directly.

As always your art just dumbfounds me with its brilliance! The expressions, the humour, the vibrancy of colour... man that water is gorgeous too I might add. I can't believe this is a traditional painting 0_0
