MerNils and Jeremy

Originally painted in 1996, this painting was done for my friend Trudy Cooper for her self published comic "Platinum Grit" <[link]

I wanted to do Nils (or Nilson as is her full name) as a mermaid. Nils and Jeremy have a volatile friendship/relationship, where he is in love with her and she tortures him physically and mentally for what seems to be her own amusement. So for this artwork, I have Nils (as a mermaid) pulling Jeremy's mask off as she drags him underwater. The equal fear factor for Jeremy is: is she doing this to kiss him...or to drown him.

The expression on the poor guys face is classic. I also like how the mermaids tail is wrapping around his legs. I would guess she is going to kiss him, not drown him, but it may just be my romantic mind choosing that one. :P
