Hyfus&Kraygon.EF1.PG14.PNL5.Szekeres

Here's a pic of Kraygon (the Elder, at back) with Hyfus (at front) from the upcoming Elf~Fin: Hyfus and Tilaweed.

I am showcasing many "snapshots" of them here on my deviantart gallery

Hyfus' first appearance was in ElfQuest:WaveDancers #1-6.

Thanks for your support as I showcase these, as it gives me the momentum to move forward to create more and more...

Thanks so much. I'm trying to make it interesting... also in context with the location and lighting ;-)

Thanks so much. It was deliberately decided by Julie and myself that this series would be painted traditionally. It seems to take longer then digital art, as there are NO shortcuts when painting digitally, everything you see is real. So it is a bit tougher doing it traditionally, but I'm glad because I'm enjoying the results, and it also keeps me practiced in my traditional skills.

I am really loving these panels.
The actual paint and brush strokes and colors...I don't know how to say it, but I just love staring at it. I'm kind of a snob about CG versus traditional ("real") techniques, and I know sometimes CG fits the image better, but I am always, always much more drawn to traditional hand-drawn and colored art and animation. Finding comic books that don't look like shiny plastic people hanging out in a CG world is hard (especially since Joseph Linsner and David Mack work sooooooo slowwwwwly (which of course is understandable)) so I am really looking forward to this comic.

I read Wave Dancers when it first came out. I think I was about 12. I've been waiting since then to get more comics by you. I can't wait! For something to hold up as interesting to me for that long really says something.

An actual question: I can't recall if you've said before, but, are you using water color, gouache or acrylic? Or something else?

Thanks so much.

I prefer traditional as well. Though it has it's place. I find the commercial art world want the flexibility that digital can give you, traditional art is not so easy to change once done.

I'm a fan and friend of Joe Linsner's work, I know the time he puts into his work, and I know it's worth it.

So if you were 12 when it came out I'm 9 years older then you. It sounds like the WaveDancers hit a chord with you. Im thankful of your continued interest and support.

For the Elf-fin series, just like the original WaveDancers series, I'm using acrylic paints on 185gm heat pressed water color paper. Different this time is... rather then sending off the originals to the publisher to be scanned, I'm scanning the artwork myself (as I have a scanner and computer now), as I complete each page, and adding the black panel-gutters/boarders digitally.

no probs, and yeah, i agree, you should keep your skills up to date, it would be good to be proficient in both digital and traditional, i can only dream for now, :P
