EF2.COVER.2.color.rough.Szekeres

This is the color rough that I did prior to painting the final art for the 2nd issue Cover for Elf-fin.
Doing this helped me work out my color choices before commiting to the larger work. Invariably, some things I ended up changing from this color rough, but the initial color sketch worked well as a guide for what I wanted, and what I didn't want.

The color rough is about the size of a smaller sized post card.

The finished artwork is located here: [link]

In a lot of ways, I like this rough a lot more than the finished piece - it feels like its an image underwater, whereas your finished piece just looks set underwater due to its clean crisp lines. A blend of the two would look quite intriguing I think.

Oh, I love seeing roughs! :D The finished piece is gorgeous, but this is so charming!

Thanks for the definition of the difference you see in the color rough to the finished art.

I will have to explore a meld of the two at some point.

Thank you. I too enjoy seeing roughs, I think they help in understanding the artists journey in creating the final work.

It's interesting to see your work before you've colored it all the way. Although, that doesn't sound quite right, as this looks finished, just in a different way. The coloring is more simple, I guess, and this piece is quite different from the more polished one, and just as beautiful, I think. The...non detail? of it works wonderfully, I love it.

I'm sorry I wasn't able to express myself better. ^^;

This is not a WIP shot of the final art, but a separate small color study on photocopy paper, approx the size of a postcard (the finished art is on A3 185g heat pressed watercolor paper).

The cartridge paper does not accept the color well, but well enough for a quick study.

You expressed yourself wonderfully. Thank you.
