Dart™ with Blood Chic™ Pin-up

This pin up of Dart™ with Blood Chic™ was done for the 3rd and final issue of Dart™, the comic mini series. It was also used as a promotional print at OzCon in Sydney Australia in 1996.

From left to right is:

Sirene™, Shaq Splade™, Rosette™, Noyade™, Death Kiss™, and of course Dart™.

This was my first painting larger then A3, it was much longer, so was a little scary. I paint on any size now I guess, but this was a breakthrough for me at the time.

Blood Chic is the Superhero group that we at Black Mermaid Productions created. None of us were really superhero readers, leaning more to fantasy themes in comics. The outfits I designed are not that usual for heros to wear, more for fantasy party gear I guess, but I still stand by them now, even if it's only to say that they look cool to me. Having seen "The Incredibles" I can see that Edna Mode would not have approved of these designs, except of course for Dart, but her fabulous outfit was designed by Image founder Eric Larson, a Super Hero aficionado.

I'm now ready for more Superhero adventures, as a creator, as an artist, and I now love them as a reader too.
